What can the Coronavirus pandemic teach us about LIFE?

What we’re experiencing is an unprecedented, extreme situation. One-of-a-kind moment. And I believe humanity as a whole has a lot of things to learn from this. If only we choose to see.

Romania also entered the state of emergency today, due to Covid-19. We’ll all be working from home the next couple of weeks and we moved our Bodyshape Transformation Centre exclusively online.

In the midst of it all, I believe there are valuable lessons to be learnt by all of us.

What can this crisis situation TEACH US?

Here are some valuable lessons I see worth reflecting on:

1. Humbleness 🙏

It just shows how vulnerable we are and how fragile as human beings.

One unexpected event can turn our world as we know it upside down.  We can have big dreams, plans and projects – but it can all be put on hold in a matter of days or weeks.

I had to cancel my trip to beautiful Spain, where I have my 2nd residence – and it’s heartbreaking not knowing WHEN I’ll be able to be there next.

I have 2 gyms in Bucharest and today I had to decide to temporarily shut them down, putting an extra burden on the business.

Future is not in our hands and we cannot control everything, no matter how hard we try. All we can do is LET go and surrender, trusting that things WILL get better. And at the end of it all, we’ll come out of this even stronger human beings.

2. Unity 🙌

Only together we can win this. If we do the right things, join forces and put our minds for the highest good – things will change. You are not alone, we are all in this together.

And that’s the beauty of life – how wonderful it is to be able to share with each other how we are feeling, support each other in times of need and be there for one another! Even if this crisis apparently makes us more isolated from one another, I believe it can actually get us closer. We are powering through this together!

3. Truth 👍

You learn the truth about yourself: how do you react when faced with a crisis, an uncertain situation? Do you keep calm or do you freak out? You also get to see the truth about other people.

In this crisis situation – in these moments – you get to realise who are your true friends, who are your most loyal team members and the most devoted colleagues. They show up, step UP and they are always there for you – at any hour of the day!

4. Altruism 👩‍❤️‍👩

The COVID-19 virus teaches us to shift your mindset from “ME” to “WE”.

This way, you not only think about yourself (“what if I get sick?”) but it forces you to think about your peers, your loved ones, the community as a whole (“what if I spread it to others and I am responsible for infecting dozens?”).
Because if you are well, others will be well. If you are not well, others won’t be well either. We are all interconnected. This pandemia teaches us that you cannot feel good in this world by being selfish.

5. Appreciation 👫

It’s so easy to take things for granted.
In case you weren’t grateful for the life you were living BEFORE the crisis, now you can realise all of the wonders in your life.

When we get back to normal life, you will appreciate all the little things.

Such as the smile of your colleagues when you grab a coffee together.

A warm hug from someone.

You will be grateful for your beautiful job that can offer you a living.

You will get to appreciate every single day that you got back your fundamental right: the freedom of movement. What a gift that you can go anywhere and everywhere with no restrictions!

You will be so grateful for things that we take for granted, such as the fact that we can travel to any destination.

Or even the simple fact that we’re alive and in good health.

When everything is over, you will appreciate your life even more.

6. Patience ❤

While we cannot predict the future, as it is not in our hands – the only thing we can hang onto is the trust that things will eventually work out for the better.

Just like when it’s cloudy outside, does the sun cease to exist? Of course not. It’s still there, just that it’s temporarily hidden. But as soon as the dark clouds dissipate, we’ll continue to enjoy the light and the warmth of the sunshine.

All you have to do is trust that the sun will shine on your street too, pretty soon. It’s only a matter of time.

7. Acceptance 🤝

You either accept the situation as it is, OR you resist it. Can you change the situation? No. Then your only alternative becomes to accept it.

The more you resist the crisis, get mad and furious about it – the more it affects you. The more you accept it, without any resistance – the easier it is for you to get through this.

This pandemia teaches us a valuable life lesson: resist NOT the changes that come into your life. We cannot change or control external events, things are the way they are. The only thing you can change is YOUR perception over the event.

How do you choose to perceive it? Do you see the good in the situation? Are there opportunities you can seize?

Perhaps you start a new online business. Or you connect deeper with your family and spend more quality together.

You read the book that you’ve always postponed reading. And you now have plenty of time to dedicate to your own self-care.

Reflect. Meditate. Connect with yourself. Practice introspection. You get to stop the autopilot mode of running around day by day. Change your habits. Learn more about yourself.

There is a hidden blessing in any suffering.
What is the blessing in disguise here?

Perhaps it’s time we share more positivism in the air, we have enough panic, anxiety and stress from the news already. We don’t need anymore of that.

Love yourself enough to value your inner peace more. Love yourself enough to prioritize your well-being. Love yourself enough to fill your mind with kind thoughts and comfort your soul with good vibes.

Keeping your calm even when there is a storm outside – that’s where the real mastery is.

Stay grounded. Stay real. This too, shall pass.
